One of the guest bloggers over at Andrew Sullivan's site posted a link to Songs to Wear Pants To. Given that I'm a total loser recluse, I'm usually right on top of these internet phenoms. So it threw me for a loop when I learned that neither I nor any of my friends had heard of this site — guess I need to spend more time sifting through the seedy underbelly of the internet.
It works like this. Readers send in (usually random) suggestions to the website and some sort of magical minstrel, whose powers far exceed those of a mere mortal, will craft a very clever song for you and your friends to admire. If you absolutely, simply must have a song written about a topic of your choice you can also pay him. Also, he's Canadian.
My favorites so far are I Am A Sad Sad Toaster Made of Glass, This Girl, Reverse Escargot, BOW DOWN TO MY PWNZORNESS I GUESS (he was dared to write a song using iambic pentameters in 7/4 time), his cover of They Might Be Giant's Birdhouse in Your Soul, and Fortinbras, Prince of Techno, in which he puts Fortinbras' final words from Hamlet to a techno beat. Listen, enjoy, and laugh (or else).
